I take it Yous guys are less than impressed with my arithmetic derring-do, since yer all so focused on her looks (not my looks, her looks, because I'm not supposed to take it personally).

Based on the above Scenario, our brave young soldier Tommy goes into his kitchen (at his father's house) just days before he was supposed to report to boot camp for deployment to some vacation spot.

Like any other young man, he goes through the kitchen door and heads due East to raid the refrigerator.

Surely there must be something to eat!

Some time after, Tommy dies of dehydration because his drill Sergeant couldn't allow a break for water during a strenuous exercise before ever getting deployed. Which causes Tommy's father a great deal of distress, and makes his good friend wonder 'what is it about men that makes them act like accomplished women?'

And during a pivotal moment in his father's coping mechanism failure, a sauce pot comes flying out of the NW pantry of the kitchen (no earthquakes reported in that part of town on that particular occasion) and lands right in the middle of the square kitchen (6 ' x 6').

Determine the rotational matrix based on the above scenario.

The Rotational Matrix

In Euclidean geometry, a rotation is an example of an isometry, a transformation that moves points without changing the distances between them. 

Rotations are distinguished from other isometries by two additional properties: 

1. they leave (at least) one point fixed, and 
2. they leave "handedness" unchanged. 

By contrast, a translation moves every point, a reflection exchanges left- and right-handed ordering, and a glide reflection does both.

A rotation that does not leave "handedness" unchanged is an improper rotation or a rotoinversion.

A geometric rotation transforms lines to lines, and preserves ratios of distances between points. A rotation is a linear transformation of the vectors, and can be written in matrix form, Qp. 

The fact that a rotation preserves, not just ratios, but distances themselves, it follows that...

Noting that any identity matrix is a rotation matrix, and that matrix multiplication is associative, all these properties may be summarize by saying that the n×n rotation matrices form a group, which for n > 2 is non-abelian. 

Called a special orthogonal group, and denoted by SO(n), SO(n,R), SOn, or SOn(R), the group of n×n rotation matrices is isomorphic to the group of rotations in an n-dimensional space. 

This means that multiplication of rotation matrices corresponds to composition of rotations, applied in left-to-right order of their corresponding matrices.

To rotate points in the xy-Cartesian plane counterclockwise through an angle θ about the origin of the Cartesian coordinate system use a rotation matrix R; each point is represented by a column vector v, of each point's coordinates (position). The rotated vector is then obtained by matrix multiplication Rv. 

Rotation matrices are square matrices (nxn), with real entries; characterized as orthogonal matrices with determinant 1.

The special orthogonal group SO(n) is the set of all such matrices of size n, generally not commutative.

Improper rotations, characterized by orthogonal matrices with determinant -1 (instead of +1) combine proper rotations with reflections (which invert orientation). 

The direction of vector rotation is counterclockwise if θ is positive (e.g. 90°), and clockwise if θ is negative (e.g. -90°).

Basic rotations:

Three basic (gimbal-like) rotation matrices rotate vectors about the x, y, or z axis... 

All other rotation matrices can be obtained from these three using matrix multiplication.

Every rotation in three dimensions is defined by its axis — a direction that is left fixed by the rotation — and its angle — the amount of rotation about that axis (Euler rotation theorem).

There are several methods to compute an axis and an angle from a rotation matrix one is based on the computation of the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the rotation matrix. It is also possible to use the trace of the rotation matrix.

Some of these properties can be generalized to any number of dimensions. In other words, they hold for any rotation matrix...

Ambiguities:  Alias and alibi rotations

The interpretation of a rotation matrix can be subject to many ambiguities.

The change in a vector's coordinates can be due to a turn of the coordinate system (alias) or a turn of the vector (alibi). Any rotation can be legitimately described both ways, as vectors and coordinate systems actually rotate with respect to each other. Here, the alibi approach is used to describe rotations. 

The vector can be pre-multiplied by a rotation matrix (Rv, where v is a column vector), or post-multiplied by it (vR, where v is a row vector). Here rotations are produced by means of a pre-multiplication.

The vector space has a dual space of linear forms, and the matrix can act on either vectors or forms.

In most cases the effect of the ambiguity is equivalent to the effect of a transposition of the rotation matrix.

Two features are noteworthy: 

1. First, one of the roots (or eigenvalues) is 1, i.e., some direction is unaffected by the matrix. For rotations in three dimensions, this is the axis of the rotation (a concept that has no meaning in any other dimension). 
2. Second, the other two roots are a pair of complex conjugates, whose product is 1 (the constant term of the quadratic), and whose sum is 2 cos θ (the negated linear term). This factorization is of interest for 3×3 rotation matrices because the same thing occurs for all of them. (As special cases, for a null rotation the "complex conjugates" are both 1, and for a 180° rotation they are both −1.) Furthermore, a similar factorization holds for any n×n rotation matrix. If the dimension, n, is odd, there will be a "dangling" eigenvalue of 1; and for any dimension the rest of the polynomial factors into quadratic terms like the one here (with the two special cases noted). Its a given that the characteristic polynomial will have degree n and therefore n eigenvalues. And since a rotation matrix commutes with its transpose, it is a normal matrix, so can be diagonalized. 

Every rotation matrix, when expressed in a suitable coordinate system, partitions into independent rotations of two-dimensional subspaces, at most n⁄2 of them...

The sum of the entries on the main diagonal of a matrix is called the trace...

The large number of options is possible because rotations in three dimensions (and higher) do not commute. 

Reversing a given sequence of rotations results in a different outcome. 

This implies that two rotations cannot be composed by simply adding their corresponding angles; i.e., Euler angles are not vectors, despite a similar representation as a triple of numbers.

This Morning's Commute...That's Right, Dear, That's A Ka-Boom! on the passenger side of my vehicle...

There was very little traffic and the road was clear of any debris and I didn't see anyone standing around or notice anybody milling about, and no vehicles were immediately flanking me nor did I see anything flying around in my peripheral field of vision, sooo I was surprised to hear what sounded like a loud thunder clap and feel something impacted my vehicle, the impact coming from the passenger side. Since whatever it was didn't interfere with the vehicle's operation, I continued my commute to work and thought to check what it was once I arrived there, thinking it may have been somthing kicked up from the street after all and the worse case scenario is I would need to repair any dents and scratches.

At the first opportunity to inspect for damage I could see a white blast of something centered on the passenger door and feathering out all along the side, there was also some of it on the door handle. Disappointing, considering the car had just been detailed over the weekend and the paint had looked to be nearly as good as new. Taking my fingernail to check for the depth of what looked to be white scratches left in the silver paint I was again surprised to find that the residue fell away like ashes and relieved to see there was no damage whatsoever to the door underneath.
I would have not thought any more of it, other than some prankster standing around paintballing morning communters, but that it was not paint and for the fact that for some inexplicable reason I was in pain over the long weekend, like my legs were blown out from under me. A good reason to stay in and not talk to anybody, a sign that My Secret Admirer took to mean 'your silence means consent,' when they surfed into this site on November 25, 2011 with that search phrase. (With that they landed on a post that had the words 'consent' and 'your' and 'silence', none of which appeared together and the search phrase itself is not on the page 'If The Trees Were Pens...' --how funny, when I don't recall anyone having put any proposals to me for consent, refusal, or further comment.)

My Reaction to This Morning's Commute

The street artist eloquently captured my reaction to this entire affair (one where You stand by and watch me get f##ed without having the dubious pleasure of first getting laid); it's a little strange in a non Ha-Ha way how the image even bears my resemblance.

Not that I ever was so shrewish or in need of taming--I mean, here I go looking like I need a game keeper while weilding my crotchet needle in one hand and a thesaurus in the other! (btw, while everyone has a right to dress down casual in LA, can't you be a little more fashion forward about it?)

I pulled the telling symptoms from an earlier post, for propriety's sake and because someOne said to delete it. {That's why we are called 'isma3ilye', it's because when we hear voices, we know we are not crazy, and we listen  ಥ_ಥ}

But here I will say this much and You can Go Figure:

In Humans, the mucous/spongy tissue in the male's genetalia is predominately the urethra and in a generously endowed man the interior surface area approximated by a tube 7mm diameter and 25cm in length, or approx. 55 cm^2.

And let's assume the nerves are just as densely packed along the homologous tissue of the female genitalia which includes the vagina (but also the labia, urethra, clitoris, uterus and other structures that we will ignore to simplify the excercise); in a 30ish-year old woman who stands about 5'4" and weighs around 140 lbs and had delivered 2 children, the conservative estimate for the surface area is approximated by a tube with an average diameter of 4cm (average top to bottom vaginal canal only) and 16cm length (in fact there is no standard shape/size to the vaginal canal the diam range 2.5-8 cm and 15-20 cm long), roughly a surface area of about 180 cm^2.

That translate to at least 133% more pain for her than it ever could be for him (remember we sized him generously and ignored some of her other parts to make the idea--how shall we say--palatable).

And that's what a chemical burn along such tissue translates into and that's why We Don't Give A Fuck!

Especially when those in charge sat around talking about her 'malingering this' and 'hypochondriac that' while making sure everyone else got out safe and suppressed any hint of it in her creatively vetted medical record while pretending NOBODY was returning to that indoor toxic air cocktail where NOTHING is wrong. (Oh, gee, a false negative!). Worse, nearly 20 years have gone by and they have all gone on with their little lives, while she still walks around 'thinking about' this non-issue, because the residual pain refuses to believe it is no longer there having not been there in the first place (just like the stupid magic bruises that come and go).

{Gordon, if I find out that it's really you all these months sitting around without introducing yourself, yet announcing my presence, like anyone around here knows me, over the phone to someOne I don't know from Adam, I  can't tell you how disappointed I would be to find that out--Have Yourself a Happy Holiday, anyway.

This cautionary tale is not only directed at Gordon, but the kids as well; especially when they suspect they have caught sight of me and whisper things to each other like, 'I think that's Her.' or 'Is that Her?' or worse, 'Amazing, The Machine gets it right each time?' (yup, not just 'The Wife', but further dehumanization, as 'The Machine,' really, at least a machine does not expect to have a name, except maybe, 'La Machine!'

Or worse, when there is a silent consent by way of a nod or averted eyes--think! If someOne has to ask to be certain my identity, then maybe there is good reason for them not to know.}

According to the same article, Palestinian organs were also forcibly harvested from Palestinian prisoners. I shudder to think what else is going to be reported 10 years from now as to what else they’ve been up to these days...(no anti-Semitism involved in this story since both Jews and Palestinians are Semites).

But the point has to do with Parts and just how much more special the Jewish variety of Man is compared to the Non-Jewish counterpart that they can displace/oppress an entire population because 'God said so?'
Based on the evidence in this article apparently not so different since the dehumanized Palestinian human parts are perfectly acceptable organ substitutes for the Israeli Jew (Orthodox or Reform) in need of a cornea or some other organ they have harvested by some unsavory means.

So, the remedy for this particular situation is both the Punishment and the Salvation, which is to release others from their enslavement/oppression or disentanglement from a neck==tight spot/bottleneck/jam. Stubbornly continuing in the present vain is simply to remain in a stagnant log jam, but it is more difficult, yet expected on account of the God-Given gifts of Sight, Hearing, Speech (and all the other Parts), to Storm into the More Difficult choice which is to release the strangle hold on others and in so doing redeem oneself from their own contrived self-righteousness.
The next 7 Signs mention that it is also more difficult to feed the needy, care for the orphans and feel compassion, but that is what is expected from those on the Starboard side. As for those choosing the easy path and remaining on the Larboard side, they will experience the 'Fire' (ie., torment) encircle them since they are only postponing the inevitable.

Cloudy Or Clear

Chapters 88 Ghashya (Obfuscation/Cloudy; also Overwhelming, as in Preponderance of Evidence) and 98 Banyiah (Elucidating/Clear) may be referring to the Weather, but it is more than likely that these chapters are talking about Evidence.

Signs 88:2-88:7 describe what happens to those who thought they got away with the cover-up (a good assignment for independent reading) and Signs 88:8-88:12 compare the reaction and position of those who finally can benefit from removing the murkiness. And while Signs 88:13-88:16 seem to digress and go on about the Furniture, the subject at the heart of the matter is how Evidence Furnishes Proof.

World War What?

This post courtesy of ‘ITS 47’ which may or may not have anything to do with what I am on about here, nevertheless, here we are.

The major theme pertaining to Surah 47 Muhammed (pbuh) is War. There is no obscuring the fact that Chapter 47 lays down the rules for what is considered an acceptable way to wage War; God having given the Prophet an explicit injunction to fight since he and his followers were being persecuted.

I suppose arrogance ranges far and wide all these centuries among 'leaders' thinking they, too, wield the office of Prophethood and that God had also given them the express order to fight; how else can anyone justify any war that has occured since the Last Prophet was given an uncontested right to carry on a War.

Any War and not just a Holy War; if you have in any way participated in such a thing subsequent to 630 AD and you yourself were not a Prophet or acting under the auspeces of a Prophet (even the Pope does not count unless he is keeping company with The Michael or The Gabriel, which I think not), your actions have all been rendered useless. More on that later.

Prior to the injunction to fight The Prophet had been driven away (Hijra from Mecca to Medina) and his followers were being dispossessed and massacred in pits of fire. There is no arguing the fact since there is historical reference to this being the case that the Muslims only fought under the aegis of the Prophet, and even then only once the Prophet himself got the Word to fight.

I am referring to the Battle of Badr 624 AD between Medina and Mecca where the Muslims met to fight off the invading forces from Mecca. The second battle at Uhud did not turn out well for the Muslims and they failed to gain control of Mecca. However, by 630 AD, the Muslim contingent had grown to such large numbers that no force was needed to overtake Mecca since the Meccans did not even bother to fight against such a large host; the Meccans all stayed in their homes and closed their doors and the conquering Muslims simply rode into town to become victorious.

How many wars since have been fought so well?

It is a historical fact that the first injunctions to fight were given once the Muslims had been already forced to take flight for safety and found they were still being persecuted.

2 Al-Baqara (The Cow)

وَقَاتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ وَلاَ تَعْتَدُواْ إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُحِبِّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ 2:190

2.190. Fight against those who fight against you in God’s way (cause), but do not transgress, for God does not love transgressors.

2:191 وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْ وَأَخْرِجُوهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ أَخْرَجُوكُمْ
وَالْفِتْنَةُ أَشَدُّ مِنَ الْقَتْلِ
وَلاَ تُقَاتِلُوهُمْ عِندَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ حَتَّى يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ فِيهِ
فَإِن قَاتَلُوكُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ كَذَلِكَ جَزَاء الْكَافِرِينَ

2.191. Kill them whenever you confront them and drive them out from where they drove you out. (While killing is sinful) wrongful persecution is even worse than killing. Do not fight against them near the Holy Mosque unless they fight against you; but if they fight against you kill them, for that is the reward of such unbelievers.

It is clear in 2:190 and of paramount importance to remember that the option to avoid killing had already been exhausted and that the Muslims were not to be the transgressors and only to fight in self-defense. And 2:191 clarifies further that killing is wrong, even in war, and is only accepted to remedy a worse evil, that being persecution. Personally, I prefer the vicarious option.
It is also very clear that the Muslims were not fighting other believers; not Christians, not Jews, not Sabaian, or what have you; they were fighting the pagan Quraish who were the transgressors (remember the definition of Believer is broad, and none of us can judge who is or is not a Believer (do you know what is in other people’s hearts/minds?, even if they profess it?);

42 Ash-Shura (The Consultation)

42:13 شَرَعَ لَكُم مِّنَ الدِّينِ مَا وَصَّى بِهِ نُوحًا وَالَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ
وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَى وَعِيسَى أَنْ أَقِيمُوا الدِّينَ وَلَا تَتَفَرَّقُوا فِيهِ

42:13 He Initiated for you the Guardianship of the Religion that He had enjoined upon Noah - and into which We have inspired in you through Revelation as well as that which We had enjoined upon Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus; steadfastly uphold the faith, and do not break up its Unity…

On the other hand, the pagan Quraish were demonstrably non-believers (setting people on fire) and acting the part of the transgressor.

I’m not much into war, but for the interested student, there are rules of engagement and more importantly, rules regarding how to treat those you are warring against, especially should you take prisoners.



47 Muhammed (The Last Prophet, Muhammed pbuh)

47:4 فَإِذا لَقِيتُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فَضَرْبَ الرِّقَابِ حَتَّى إِذَا أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ فَشُدُّوا الْوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنًّا بَعْدُ
وَإِمَّا فِدَاء حَتَّى تَضَعَ الْحَرْبُ أَوْزَارَهَا ذَلِكَ وَلَوْ يَشَاء اللَّهُ لَانتَصَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَلَكِن لِّيَبْلُوَ بَعْضَكُم بِبَعْضٍ
وَالَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَلَن يُضِلَّ أَعْمَالَهُمْ

47:4 Now when you meet [the transgressor in battle/war;; notice it does not say in the middle of the street, schoolhouse, nearby place of worship or hotel lobby, etc.] those who disbelieve, then smite their necks (subdue them) until, you have routed them; then make fast bondage (take prisoners; implies they are actively fighting against you and not hostages that would imply they are civilians); and afterward either generosity (release the prisoners of war) or ransom (the prisoners of war) until the war lay down its burdens (i.e., do not kill the prisoners of war, (or anyone else that you have bound), etc.). Thus (is the ordinance, i.e., that’s an order). And if God willed He could have punished them (without you) but (it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in God’s cause (way/path), He does not let their works (actions) go to waste.

The assurance being that if you are fighting in God's cause (and sometimes it can be a battle to just get up in the morning) and are killed or die in the way, God will never let any of your deeds go to waste. Compare this to the weight your life's deeds carry if you are among the ones making it so unbearable for the rest:

الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَصَدُّوا عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَضَلَّ أَعْمَالَهُمْ 47:1

47:1 (As for) those who disbelieve (transgressors) and bar (others) from the path of God (God’s cause/path/way)- (their) deeds will He let go to waste (fritter away; i.e., their deeds are null and void)

It is very interesting that Surah 47 opens with this Sign. Right off the bat, if you are the 'bad apples', nothing you do or ever did will count for anything. This begs the question: If a nonbeliever kills you and given their actions don't count, do you die? in war or in any other way. For A Page In The Life followers keyed into the language usage, multiplicity, and meaning aspects of this blog, you probably are also into Latin and you may already know that 'apple' and 'evil' share similar Latin words (malus —apple, malum —evil) and homophones in the plural (mala). I don't know Latin but search the Internet.

At this point in my communiqué that last line about the 'apples' and 'evils' will help us transition to the next unexpected item on the agenda; What exactly did Satan 'tempt' Adam and Eve with that she 'tested' the 'forbidden fruit' of the 'tree,' best to have been avoided, bearing that 'bad apple' that came to be the 'root of all evil'?

40 Ghafir (The Forgiving)قَالُوا رَبَّنَا أَمَتَّنَا اثْنَتَيْنِ وَأَحْيَيْتَنَا اثْنَتَيْنِ فَاعْتَرَفْنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا فَهَلْ إِلَى خُرُوجٍ مِّن سَبِيلٍ 40:11

40:11 They will say: "Our Lord! Twice You have caused us to die, and twice You have given us Life! Now that we confess our wrongdoing: How do we get out of this?"

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا 91:14
91:14 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly hamstrung (crippled/disabled) her (the she-camel/Our female servant) - so their Sustainer punished them for their sin equally (Dear God, (swt) please have Mercy).

For homework, one interesting exercise is to try and convert each letter in the Quran to 1 and space to 0 to see if anything of interest emerges. Another variation would be to make the consonants 1 and the vowls 0 and vice versa.

Either someone is paying me a very high compliment by following this blog or they just ordered a hit on me.
Some play ping-pong, some walk around the block, but for lunch I sit at my desk and surf the Web (Net). I make no pretentions about the content I pursue; today I was at the Washington Post (WAPO) site looking for the latest cartoons—yes, a true testimony to the level of my intelligence these days--when I came across an article with commentary Searching for God on the Internet, by Ramdas Lamb. It had two comments posted by Homeland1 and I thought it would serve as a useful example of Meaning and Language Usage at A Page In The Life.

What follows is each comment along with a possible interpretation. Only the person posting the comment knows what their intended meaning is and of course each reader is invited to make sense of it in light of their own unique experience set. As an aside, I thought the username was funny because I ain’t got no Home and I don’t see no Land—thanks!
